I am proud to announce that Newman Translations is now equipped with Trados Studio 2015! “What is Trados Studio?” you might ask. It is sort of the industry standard CAT tool that facilitates the translation process. How does it do so? Well, here is a broad description of how it works: It divides your source text into individual segments and allows you to automatically populate the target segments with terms you have saved from previous work. This has a double benefit; in addition to saving time, it also ensures terminological consistency with previous jobs.
Another big feature is preservation of formatting. Source documents in many formats such as PDF can be automatically imported into Trados, translated, and then exported back to the original format in a manner that conserves all the formatting. This way, no one has to sit down and manually re-create a target document that mirrors the source. Instant savings of time and effort.
Of course, it took me until 2016 to jump on the Trados bandwagon :), but I am looking forward to the convenience, speed, and cost savings Trados will afford me and my clients. I have not been a big proponent of CAT (computer-assisted translation) tools in the past, but Trados offers advantages and business opportunities that I can no longer pass up.
